The rounded, broad and balanced curriculum provided for Reception to Year 6 encourages Saint Martin’s pupils to flourish and grow into happy, able and confident young people. Lessons are based on the National Curriculum and beyond, and specialist teaching contributes to our academic standard, as well as our sporting, musical and creative achievements.

Small classes and individual attention ensures that each child reaches their potential. Learning is carefully monitored by form staff who liaise closely with parents. During their early years at school, children learn through practical experience, developing new skills and learning to work independently. Mathematics and English receive a high priority throughout this age group and Mathematics is taught in ability sets in Year 3 – 6. Reception to Year 2 pupils read to a member of staff every day and soon develop a love of books.

Children in Year 6 take the transfer test to the Senior School. This is in the November prior to joining Year 7 in the following September. The children do not sit SATS in Year 6 but they are well-prepared for formal tests due to the practice that they have had throughout Junior School since Year 3.
