Year 8 enjoyed a trip to the Tate Modern last week as part of their Art and Design and Technology studies. The study visit was a wonderful opportunity for a first-hand experience of the gallery’s modern and contemporary art, which informed and enthused the girls. During the day the girls also had an opportunity to visit the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition.
Georgia O’Keeffe (1887-1986) was ‘one of the foundational figures of American modernism and a pioneering woman in the arts ’. She is widely acclaimed for her abstractions, flower paintings and landscapes of New Mexico. This exhibition will link directly to the girls’ Art work this term.
The girls also viewed the new Switch Building extension to Tate Modern, where contemporary art, sculpture and installations are on display. Everyone had a great day and left feeling very inspired.
