On Wednesday evening the Year 6 Netball team competed in the Solihull Borough High Five Netball Festival and were delighted to win to become Borough Champions.
The team used their agile dodging and excellent marking skills to win two matches and draw one, and became winners of their group. They then faced a well-drilled team in the semi final and were level 2 – 2 at half time. In the second half the team played superbly, with brilliant defending, great spacing and excellent shooting from Charlotte and Grace. We won 7 – 2 and therefore qualified for the final against Oak Cottage.
The final was really close and played at a very fast pace with both teams so equally matched that after full time it was a 3 all draw. The match then went to extra time of 2 minutes ….. this was really nail biting! The pressure was immense: Oak Cottage had the first 3 shots but did not score. With less than 1 minute to go we got the ball into the circle and, cool as a cucumber, Nina scored. 30 seconds to go and with our grit and determination we passed the ball to Nina again; the crowd were silent in anticipation, and with one shot Nina scored. 15 seconds later the final whistle went and Saint Martin’s became Borough Champions, for the third year running.
The team will now be representing Solihull Borough in the Level 3 County Games next Tuesday .
Congratulations to Amelia Bogira, Nina Harper, Grace Harrison, Isabel Higgins, Ellie Pimlott, Sharon Sandhu (Captain), Alex Warburton and Charlotte Watson.
