On Thursday Saint Martin’s entered an Under 14 and Under 18 team into the Warwick 100s. This is a prestigious swimming event where all competitors have to swim an individual race of 100m and two relays. Teams from Harrow, Abingdon, Newcastle, Bedford, Cheltenham and Northampton took part and the event included many top class county and national swimmers.
The competition was always going to be tough for the U14 team as three members of the squad are in Year 7 and they were swimming against pupils in Year 9. However, Carmen Whaley was one hundreth of a second off finishing in third place and Lauryn Leedham almost finished third in the Freestyle. Lauryn was delighted to achieve a personal best time in that event. Adele Reeves swam the 200m Individual Medley and Eve Armstrong and Amelia Bogira also swam magnificently. The whole team did themselves proud and it was a great experience for the girls.
The Under 18 team were absolutely superb, both in their swimming and the way they took care of the younger girls. The team of Sophie Stables, Maria Lyri, Alice Glover and Lucy Glover won both relays and all 4 girls also won their individual events with ease, demonstrating an outstanding standard of swimming.
Lauren Shaw finished second in her Butterfly race and Mrs Burgess, Head of PE, was delighted by her support for the School as Lauren no longer trains but clearly still swims at an exceptional level.
Trophies are awarded to :
|Sophie Stables||Winner of 200m Individual Medley|
|Lucy Glover||Winner of 100m Backstroke|
|Alice Glover||Winner of 100m Freestyle|
|Maria Lyri||Winner of 100m Breaststroke|
Overall, Saint Martin’s were unbeatable and were awarded the Winners’ Trophy. Well done to all of our swimmers for an amazing result.
