Smiles all round as Saint Martin’s girls celebrate outstanding GCSE results.

ANOTHER fantastic year of GCSE results are being celebrated at Saint Martin’s School.

The independent day school for girls in Brueton Avenue has followed up last year’s outstanding results, which saw it ranked top in the borough and 27th in the country, with another impressive GCSE haul.

Eager pupils descended on the school at 8am to receive their results and were delighted with the outcome. Almost a quarter of all grades were A* and 84% of all grades A*-B.

Maths, English Literature and English language were all subject to a new grading system this year which gives pupils a grade of 1 to 9 – 9 being the highest, 8 to 9 being an A* and 4 being a C. Results in these reformed subjects were first class with an 100% pass rate overall, and with half of the girls achieving at least one grade 8 or 9.

Delighted Saint Martin’s Head, Miss Nicola Edgar, praised the girls and staff for their outstanding achievements and the self-motivation which helped produce their brilliant results.

She said: “We are all delighted for our girls for another fantastic year of GCSE results. They are the just reward for all their hard work and reflect the fantastic support of their families and the excellent teaching and pastoral care they have received here at Saint Martin’s. Everyone involved is to be congratulated for their dedication and the end result.”

This year’s high achievers were Annabel Bamford (9 A* and 1 A grade) and Josie Parry and Lauren Thompson, who both received 7 A*and 3 A grades.

Annabel Bamford, Josie Parry and Lily Mann have all been awarded Sixth Form Scholarships.

Mrs Rachael Speirs, Head of Sixth Form, added her congratulations and looked forward to welcoming the girls into the Sixth Form in September. She said: “The girls have achieved excellent results which are richly deserved. We look forward to welcoming them into the Sixth Form in a couple of weeks and I have every confidence in their ability to work hard and succeed as they embark on the next exciting stage of their education.”
