Physics in Action

During Physics in Year 9 this week the girls were out in the school grounds looking at the topic of Energy Transformations called the Energy Circus. They also investigated kinetic torches, wind-up toys, cardboard spirals above candles, radios, jumping bugs and many other electrical devices. They were looking at the useful energy transformations that devices were designed for, as well as those where some of the energy might be ‘lost’ to the surroundings in heat.

Ms Morris was able to show the transformation from elastic potential energy to kinetic energy using a bow and arrow. This example matched a diagram in the girls’ text book perfectly.
