Malvern Hall, one of Solihull’s oldest and finest buildings, will be open for Heritage Open Day on Saturday 14 September 2013 from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm.
Malvern Hall is now the main building for Saint Martin’s School. Its fascinating history was the subject of the painter John Constable in 1809, with John Soane playing an important part in alterations under the direction of the then owner Henry Greswold Lewis.
There is now a rare opportunity to see the original picture of Malvern Hall by John Constable (1776-1837) painted on 1 August 1809 in the exhibition Turner and Constable: Sketching from Nature, Works from the Tate Collection which is currently running at Compton Verney until 22 September. The view is of Henry Greswold’s mansion from across the lake. www.comptonverney.org.uk
