Mr Delaney Head of Modern Languages was delighted to receive news of the School’s success in gaining the prestigious British Council International School Award. The award which is accredited for three years from 2014 – 2017 is in recognition of the School’s international work.
In the assessor’s report comments were made on “...(the) understanding and appreciation of the importance of international learning as an integral part of the curriculum and school ethos. The work you have done so far and plan to do in the future all clearly point to your passion for and commitment to introducing and maintaining excellent practice right across the curriculum.”
Last academic year there were many international cross-departmental projects in all areas of the School. The range of international activities included a trip for girls in Year 10 to the Battlefields in France and a pen friend scheme with our partner school in Germany, leading to an exchange visit this academic year. There have been Science projects covering the sustainable use of water and energy which have been shared with our partner school Annal Jyoti in Nepal.
Food and Nutrition projects were shared with Nepal, China and Germany including food diaries and recipes. In Geography girls discussed in detail the areas where they live and shared this with our European partners.
Our international links also extended to charity fundraising including a sponsored walk for Water Aid and a donation of IT equipment for the charity IT Schools Africa.
