Commemoration of the End of the First World War

We have commemorated 100 years since the end of the First World War in School this week. Year 1 have worked hard to make a wonderful poppy wreath which they were delighted to show to Mrs Smillie earlier this week.

In Senior School, Mr van Alderwegen led an informative assembly this morning and Senior School lessons have had a World War I theme, including scientific investigations, battlefield models and food rationing.

Also we were pleased to learn that Lola Bowron has been shortlisted in the Armistice 100 Schools Poetry Competition for her entry. Her poem will feature in a book which is being produced with a foreword by the Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy.

Finally, Mrs Speirs played an emotional rendition of ‘The Last Post’ to mark the beginning of our 2 minutes’ silence.
