Introduction to extra-curricular activities

A very wide range of extra-curricular opportunities is available for girls of all ages. These vary from year to year and some are put on at the request of pupils and run by members of the Sixth Form. Some clubs of course are seasonal.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
All Year 10 pupils are invited to participate in the Bronze Level Award.

Pupils have to complete the four elements of Community Service, Physical Recreation Activity, a Skill (showing regular commitment to these for at least one hour per week over a 3 or 6 month period) and an Expedition. For the Expedition element, the girls undertake a practice walk of 15 miles carrying rucksacks and camp overnight in the Bromsgrove area. They complete their expedition element with an assessed 15 mile walk and overnight camp in the Derbyshire White Peak.

We also offer Year 11 and Sixth Form pupils the opportunity to achieve the Silver and Gold Awards, an option which has been enjoyed by a good number of our pupils to date. Expeditions here go further afield to the Malvern Hills and Shropshire / Wales borders.

Girls of all ages can take part in clubs and activities at Saint Martin’s school; the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme is open to all girls in Year 10
